Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal and Permanent Mission to ICAO

On July 24, Consul General Jaewan Lee meet with Yoshua Bengio, founder and Scientific Director of Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, as well as Benjamin Prud'homme, Vice-President, Public Policy, Security and Global Affairs. A full professor at the Université de Montréal, Dr. Bengio is recognized worldwide as a leading expert in AI, most known for his pioneering work in deep learning.

Among other topics, Dr. Lee and Dr. Bengio discussed the outcomes of the Seoul AI Summit last May, where Mr. Prud’homme presented the Interim International Scientific Report on the Safety of Advanced AI. The final report, to be presented at the AI Action Summit in France next February, is chaired by Dr. Bengio. At the summit, the Government of the Republic of Korea, which co-hosted it, announced the creation of a research institute for AI safety by the end of 2024.
