Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Attends Meeting of OECD Global Strategy Group

1. Mr. Lee Seong-ho, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting of the Global Strategy Group of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) held in a virtual format from 20:00 to 23:00, March 16, and introduced the Green New Deal policy, part of the Korean New Deal policy, under the theme of “green recovery plans.”

 

2. The meeting, an arena where high-level delegates of OECD Member countries discuss the OECD’s future strategic policy directions, consisted of a discussion on the New Vision Statement being drawn up to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the OECD, as well as presentations and discussions on the establishment of green recovery plans and ways for their implementation.

 

3. Deputy Minister Lee explained the purpose of the Korean New Deal policy, especially the expected effect of the Green New Deal policy and its main projects. He stressed the importance of cooperation with the private sector and that the progress in the private sector’s participation is key to the success of the Green New Deal policy.

 

° The Deputy Minister also stressed that the “2021 Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit” to be hosted by Korea in May 2021 will renew awareness on the importance of expanding private-public partnership in achieving green recovery.

 

4. The Korean government, as the Vice-Chair of the 2021 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, will continue to seek various ways to lead and contribute to OECD discussions on green and digital recovery.
