Minister of Foreign Affairs to Attend 2021 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (October 5-6, Paris)

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will attend as head of the delegation of Korea* the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s annual Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) to be held under the theme “Shared Values: Building a Green and Inclusive Future” in Paris, France, from October 5 to October 6.

* The delegation will also include Minister for Trade Yeo Han-koo, 2nd Vice Minister of Science and ICT Cho Kyeong-sik and Deputy Minister for International Affairs of Ministry of Economy and Finance Yoon Tae-sik.

 

2. As Vice-Chair of the 2021 OECD MCM, Foreign Minister Chung will attend the MCM’s Opening and Member Discussion on October 5. During this Member Discussion, Foreign Minister Chung will congratulate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the OECD and speak of the role of the OECD in coping with pending global issues as well as Korea’s commitment to contribute in that regard.

 

° He will also share the meaningful cooperation experience over the past 25 years between Korea and the OECD and Korea’s will to increase its contribution going forward. 

 

° During the Member Discussion on “shared values,” the OECD’s member countries will discuss ways to resolve global challenges including climate change and social inequality issues based on the OECD’s strengthened core values such as democracy, rule of law and market economy, and to leverage the work of the OECD. At the end of the session, a “60th Anniversary Vision Statement” will be adopted.


3. On the occasion of the Ministerial Council Meeting, Foreign Minister Chung will meet with his counterparts from other attending countries and also have a bilateral meeting with Secretary-General of the OECD Mathias Cormann.

4. On October 6, four sessions on “International Tax Presentation,” “Building A Green Future,” “Promoting Trade For All” and “Building An Inclusive Future” will be held, and other high-level Korean officials of related Ministries will attend these sessions. Korea, which will participate in the discussions and share Korean policies with other countries, expects that the MCM will provide a good opportunity to deepen partnership with other attending countries and international organizations.
