1. MOFAT’s Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Lee Yong-joon held the 6th Korea-Egypt Policy Consultation
with Ahmed Fathalla, Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Assistant Minister for Asian Affairs visiting Korea to attend
the 2nd Korea-Africa Forum, on November 26. The Consultation consisted of a main session at the Foreign
Ministry followed by a luncheon meeting.
2. In the Policy Consultation, after noting with satisfaction active exchange between high-level officials
as well as brisk economic cooperation in trade and investment since the establishment of Korea-Egypt
diplomatic relations in 1995, the two Deputy Ministers discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation
in renewable and nuclear energy, defense industry, tourism and other sectors. In particular, they agreed
to hold a variety of cultural events next year marking the 15th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in an
effort to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
3. In the subsequent luncheon meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the current situations on the
Korean peninsula and in the Middle East, including Israel-Palestine peace negotiations and Afghan issues.
