ROK, the US and Japan to Hold the 1st Trilateral Consultation on Development Cooperation Policy

1. The Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan will hold their first trilateral consultation on development cooperation policy in Washington DC, the US, on July 8. The ROK, the US and the Japanese head delegates to the first-ever trilateral meeting on development cooperation will be Director-General for Development Cooperation Lee Yong-soo of the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs Kurt Tong of the US Department of State; and Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Bureau Keizo Takewaka of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2. In the policy consultation, the three countries, in the age of sustainable development, will share with one another their respective policies on and experience in development cooperation, inform one another of new relevant initiatives for sustainable development and explore potential areas for cooperation, including joint projects and exchanges among volunteer groups of the three countries.

3. The forthcoming consultation is expected to serve as an opportunity for the three countries that have worked closely together on security and economy to take their trilateral cooperation to the global level and to evolve development cooperation into a main area for trilateral cooperation on the global level.
