1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will host the “2016 Global Energy Security Conference” at the Westin Chosun Seoul on September 29.

o The conference has been held every year since 2012 and will mark its fifth this year. The upcoming conference will bring together about 400 people, including those from government agencies, international organizations, domestic and foreign agencies in the energy sector, companies, and academia.

2. The forthcoming conference will begin with opening remarks by Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Lee Tae-ho, and congratulatory remarks by lawmaker Kang Chang-il, a member of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, and by Vice Chairman of the Korea New and Renewable Energy Association Hong Kwon-pyo. The conference will consist of three sessions, in which participants will discuss global trends, how the ROK is dealing with energy security, and the impact of Electric Vehicle (EV) and Energy Storage System (ESS) on the future of the global energy industry.

3. The Foreign Ministry has actively supported Korean companies’ entry into foreign markets, including by providing information on global energy market trends to Korean companies. Ahead of the launch of the new climate regime, the upcoming conference is expected to help Korean energy companies to respond swiftly to changes in the global energy security environment and to turn change into opportunity by serving as a forum for domestic and foreign energy experts to share various expert opinions and knowledge.
