Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.


Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will attend the 15th Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to take place in a virtual format from October 3 to 7.

 

At the Session to be held under the theme of “From Inequality and Vulnerability to Prosperity for All,” the member states will discuss ways to tackle global challenges such as climate change, deepening inequality and vulnerability, and digital divide, as well as ways to work together toward a better recovery.

 

In his statement, Foreign Minister Chung will share the Korean government’s policies in response to global challenges and convey its commitment to contribute toward a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable post-COVID era.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will attend the annual Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to take place in Paris, France, from October 5 to 6.

 

In the Meeting, OECD Member countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the OECD and discuss the topic of “Shared Values: Building a Green and Inclusive Future.”

 

Foreign Minister Chung, as Vice-Chair of the 2021 OECD MCM, will highlight the importance of the role of the OECD in addressing global challenges such as climate change and inequalities triggered by COVID-19, and explain how Korea will contribute in that regard.

 

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon will attend and deliver congratulatory remarks at the World Korean Community Leaders Convention 2021 on the morning of October 5.

 

Vice Minister Choi will pledge to implement policies with a top priority on ensuring the safety and promoting the rights and interests of the overseas Koreans and ask the offline and online participants to make efforts for further development of the overseas Korean communities.
