Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 8 to 11 on the heels of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting that he is currently attending.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Chung will have meetings with the heads of Korea’s diplomatic missions in the Middle East and with his UAE counterpart, and pay a courtesy call on the Crown Prince.

The forthcoming meeting of the heads of Korea’s diplomatic missions in the Middle East, the first face-to-face meeting of mission chiefs to be chaired by the Foreign Minister amid the COVID-19 situation, will cover assessments of the situation since the outbreak of the Afghan crisis and explore ways for Korea-Middle East cooperation in the post-COVID-19 era.

During Foreign Minister Chung’s meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and courtesy call on Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE, the two sides will discuss the way forward for the special strategic partnership and substantive cooperation between Korea and the UAE in various areas.

Foreign Minister Chung will also visit the Korea Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020 and extend encouragement to the participating Korean companies and officials.
