글로벌녹색성장연구소(GGGI) 서명국회의 장관님 오찬사(9.20)

Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates,
On behalf of the Korean Government, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you, especially those who have travelled a long distance to participate in this Full Signatories' Meeting. I am so pleased to be here with you today. I believe that we are all united in sharing the vision and mission of the Global Green Growth Institute(GGGI) as an international organization.
(Process of the GGGI's Conversion into an International Organization)
Since its inception in June 2010, the GGGI has continued to embrace the vision of becoming a fully-fledged international organization. Last June after only two years, we successfully held the Ceremony for the Signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of the GGGI on the occasion of the Rio+20 (United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development) in Brazil.
It is thanks to the active role by the GGGI and the unwavering support from like-minded countries that this rapid progress in converting the GGGI into an international organization was made possible.
(Encouraging the Ratification)
Now the new GGGI is ready to be officially launched in October with the deposit of ratification instruments of the Kingdom of Denmark, Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Republic of Kiribati. I would like to express my special gratitude to those countries for accelerating the domestic procedures for ratification.
Further, I am hoping that more countries may be able to ratify the GGGI Establishment Agreement before the Inaugural Meetings of the GGGI Assembly and the Council of the GGGI, which will be held in Seoul from 22 to 23 October.
(The New GGGI)
The new GGGI is expected to realize its full potential as a multi-stakeholder, hybrid international organization, which brings together developed and developing countries and public and private sectors. And it will play a central role in the international community in effectively disseminating and implementing green growth.
The Korean Government will provide full support to the GGGI to create a new platform for green growth. I would ask for your continued support for the further development of the GGGI as a shared asset of the international community.
(Green Growth and Post-2015)
Recently, I have been honored to be appointed to the High-level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which embraces the three dimensions of economic growth, social equality and environmental sustainability. I believe that the green growth can contribute to the shaping of the Post-2015 development agenda, by maximizing the synergy between the environment and socio-economic growth in a balanced manner.
