Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the State of Qatar

As a critical geopolitical point, Qatar has flourished as an epicenter of trade and commerce in the Gulf region since ancient times. Qatar's successful rise to prominence as a hub in the Middle East is becoming more evident even today.

Effectively capitalizing on its resources of having the world's third-largest natural gas reserves, Qatar has achieved rapid economic growth and emerged as one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita. Continuing its triumph, Qatar has recently sharpened its national brand by successfully hosting international events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has been expanding its role as a peace mediator in the Middle East.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Qatar. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1974, the two countries have sustained friendly ties and have been continuously developing mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and infrastructure. Qatar is a key energy supplier to Korea, and Korean companies are major partners in Qatar's infrastructure and plant construction.

The state visit of President Yoon Suk Yeol to Qatar last year elevated the bilateral relationship to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership." Now, cooperation between the two countries is expanding into various fields such as investment, ICT, smart farms, healthcare, and airports and ports.

The Korean Embassy in Qatar will do its utmost to ensure that the relationship between the two countries continues to develop robustly in the future. At the same time, the Embassy will continue its efforts to protect the safety and rights of Korean citizens and businesses in Qatar and strengthen our partnership with the Korean community in Qatar.
