I am YOO Hyungcheol, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong.
Thank you for visiting the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong.
The Consulate General covers Hong Kong and Macao and has been working hard to strengthen bilateral relations with these regions and develop the Korean community for more than 70 years since 1949.
As a global financial, trade and business hub, Hong Kong holds the status of one of the world’s top three global financial centers along with New York and London. Korea has close cooperation with Hong Kong in various fields - by 2022, Hong Kong is Korea’s top 5th export market and top 3rd surplus trade partner, and it is also an area where people-to-people exchanges are active, with 1.4 million Koreans visiting in 2018.
Macao is also developing rapidly with its unique culture and tourism industry, and it is playing important role in the development of the Greater Bay Area along with Hong Kong.
Although both regions have suffered from the effects of the pandemic, with tourist arrivals plummeting and the economy shrinking, they have recently recovered from the impact of COVID-19, and cooperation with Korea, including people-to-people exchanges, has been increasing, and that trend is expected to accelerate in the future.
The Consulate General will endeavor to further enhance the exchange and cooperation with the increasingly important Hong Kong and Macao. We will also do our best to promote national interests, protect the safety and rights of our people and develop the Korean community.
We look forward to your continued interest and support in our activities.
Thank you.
