Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds 10th Korea-Romania Policy Consultation

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chang Ho-jin held the 10th Korea-Romania policy consultation with his Romanian counterpart Traian Laurenţiu Hristea on June 23, and discussed the Korea-Romania relations, substantive cooperation, global and regional affairs, and ways to work together in the international arena.

2. The two sides appreciated that with this year marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea-Romania Strategic Partnership, active high-level exchanges have been taking place, including Prime Minister Han Duck-soo’s visit to Romania, which marked the first in almost 30 years by a Korean Prime Minister, and that close bilateral relations are developing in a range of areas, including political and economic affairs.

3. The two sides agreed to continue working together to further enhance bilateral trade and investment, and make joint efforts to realize the potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as nuclear energy, the defense industry, and infrastructure. Vice Minister Chang requested the Romanian government's interest and support for the activities of Korean companies in Romania. The two sides also had in-depth discussions on Korean companies’ participation in projects such as Romania's nuclear facility improvement, SMR construction, and modernization of the Port of Constanta.

4. Furthermore, the two sides shared their assessments and analyses of the situations in Ukraine and East Asia as well as the Indo-Pacific Strategy, and agreed to continue such exchange of information and policy assessments.

5. Vice Minister Chang called for the Romanian government's interest and support for Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, and State Secretary Hristea assessed Busan as one of the leading candidates.

6. The 10th Korea-Romania policy consultation served as an opportunity to review the progress in the implementation of projects agreed on during Prime Minister Han Duck-soo's official visit to Romania in May and discuss ways to work together to implement follow-up measures, while further strengthening cooperation in substantive areas of cooperation and foreign policy.
