1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin had a meeting with External Affairs Minister of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on July 13 during his visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, for the 2023 ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings. 

2. In their second meeting following the one held during Foreign Minister Park’s visit to India in April, the two foreign ministers noted with appreciation that active high-level exchanges, including the first in-person summit between the leaders of the two countries on the sidelines of the recent G7 summit, have been ongoing between Korea and India, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. On that note, they agreed to advance the “Special Strategic Partnership” between the two countries by continuing close, bilateral high-level exchanges on such occasions as the G20 Summit this coming September. 

3. The two foreign ministers took note of continued advances in cooperation not only in the defense industry -- the signature result of which is K-9 self-propelled howitzers -- but also in digital, biohealth, aerospace and other cutting-edge technologies as well as in maintaining and securing stable international supply chains, among others. They then agreed to continue expanding cooperation based on shared values and trust between the two countries.

4. The two foreign ministers agreed to upgrade the Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and thereby to further increase bilateral trade and investment. They agreed that by doing so, the two countries will fulfill the potential for bilateral economic cooperation and promote the supply chain resilience, thereby creating benefits for both countries. 

5. In particular, Foreign Minister Park asked for External Affairs Minister Jaishankar’s attention to ensure  reasonable treatment regarding tariffs to Korean companies operating in India.

6. Foreign Minister Park commended India for playing a pivotal role as the holder of the G20 Presidency in addressing global challenges, adding that Korea will cooperate actively as a G20 member for India’s successful presidency. 

7. The two foreign ministers shared the view that as North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, including its launch of a long-range ballistic missile on July 12, constitute a grave challenge to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as in the Indo-Pacific and the rest of the international community, it is important for the international community to be united in responding to such threats.
