Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin attended the 24th MIKTA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held in New York on the morning of September 23 (New York time) on the occasion of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and discussed a range of issues, including follow-up measures to the MIKTA Leaders’ Gathering (Sep. 9) held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, and ways to deepen cooperation at multilateral and regional fora.

2. MIKTA, a consultative forum consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Türkiye, and Australia, was launched in September 2013 on the occasion of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly and marks its 10th anniversary this year. 3. Foreign Minister Park appreciated that Indonesia, the chair of MIKTA, showed leadership, including by successfully hosting the MIKTA Leaders’ Gathering on the sidelines of the G20 Summit held in New Delhi, and stated that amid international divisions due to rising geopolitical tensions, it is important for MIKTA to strengthen its role in building bridges between developed and developing countries.

4. In addition, Foreign Minister Park recalled the proposal made by President Yoon Suk Yeol at the MIKTA Leaders’ Gathering (Sep. 9) held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, to cooperate on establishing digital norms in the process of digital transformation and on promoting exchange among future generations, and suggested that MIKTA members join efforts to implement such proposal.

5. The MIKTA Foreign Ministers shared the view that MIKTA, which marks its 10th anniversary, should continue to send out a united message on various international issues, and agreed to deepen cooperation based on the achievements of the last Leaders’ Gathering.
