1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin attended the 2023 SDG Summit held under the theme of ‘Accelerating the recovery from COVID-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels’ at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 18 and 19.

※ 2023 SDG Summit: A high-level political forum on sustainable development held every four years under the auspices of the UN General Assembly to carry out a comprehensive review of the status of the SDGs 

2. In his remarks at the Leaders’ Dialogue 2 held under the title of ‘Building Resilience and Leaving No One Behind’ on September 18, Foreign Minister Park stressed that the Yoon Suk Yeol government is making efforts to increase its Official Development Assistance (ODA) volume in line with Korea’s economic status, and committed to continue to actively participate in the international community’s endeavor to implement the SDGs.

3. He noted that the difficulties of vulnerable groups including children, women and the elderly are increasing due to the poly-crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, and that the Korean government plans to expand support for education and training, especially for future generation. 

4. Foreign Minister Park explained that digital transformation in developing countries is key to implementing the SDGs and emphasized that the Yoon Suk Yeol government will continue supporting it to ensure that new technologies, including AI, can maximize the freedom and welfare of human society. 

5. Representatives from each country who attended the Summit expressed their concerns that the SDGs will be far from being achieved by 2030 if current trends continue, and adopted a ‘Political Declaration’ to strengthen cooperation and solidarity to accelerate SDG progress. 

6. The Korean government will continue to cooperate closely with the international community to contribute to accelerating the implementation of the SDGs, while fulfilling its role as a responsible member of the international community.
