Outcome of Korea-Hungary Foreign Ministers' Telephone Conversation

1. Minister Park Jin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a phone conversation with Péter Szijjártó, Foreign Minister of Hungary, on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 11. During the conversation, they discussed △current issues between the two countries, △the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, and △Korea's bid to host World Expo 2030 in Busan.

2. Foreign Minister Park appreciated the strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries through ongoing high-level exchanges, such as the Korea-Hungary summit on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in July 2023 and the UN General Assembly session in September 2023. He emphasized the need to continue discussions on expanding cooperation in areas such as small modular reactors (SMRs), the defense industry, advanced technology, education, and population issues, which had been discussed during the summits.

3. Furthermore, the two Foreign Ministers highly appreciated the increasing investment by Korean companies in advanced industries, including EV batteries, in Hungary. They agreed to closely coordinate efforts to further enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

4. Foreign Minister Park expressed gratitude to Foreign Minister Szijjártó for his interest in and support for Korean companies operating in Hungary and asked for continued support to ensure the smooth operation of these companies in the future.

5. Additionally, the two Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Foreign Minister Park emphasized that if Russia and North Korea engage in arms trade or cooperation in the nuclear and missile fields, this would be not only  a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions but also a threat to security. He stressed the importance of immediately stopping such activities.

6. Foreign Minister Park also expressed gratitude to Hungary for its early decision to support Korea's bid to host World Expo 2030 in Busan and proposed continued cooperation on the global stage in the future.
