1. The 3rd Round of Policy Consultation Meeting between the Republic of Korea and the Popular Republic
of Algeria was held in Seoul on September 3, 2004, headed by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
Choi Young-jin, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Hocine Meghlauoi.
2. Taking this opportunity, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the agreements made at the
bilateral summit meeting during Algerian President Bouteflika's visit to the ROK in December 2003, and
discussed ways to further promote substantial cooperation between the two countries in the new political
and economic environment of the world.
3. In particular, the two sides noted that, despite the fact that it has only been a short period of time since
the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, Algeria has become one of the four largest trade partners
of the ROK in Africa, and they shared the view that the two side should further expand mutual cooperation in
the areas of IT, energy and construction based on such developments. For discussions on concrete ways
toward this goal, the two sides also agreed to hold the bilateral joint economic committee and the joint
business council, which haven't been held since 2001, at the earliest date possible.
