Outcomes of the 4th Round of Negotiations with China concerning the Imposition of Customs Duties on Rice

1.      The Korean delegation headed by Mr. Lee Jae-gil, Ambassador for DDA negotiations at the Ministry of 
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), and consisting of officials from related government agencies such as 
MOFAT, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy, held the 4th round 
of negotiations with China concerning the imposition of customs duties on rice on September 14th, in Seoul.

- The Chinese delegation was headed by Mr. Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General at the Department 
of WTO Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce, and consisted of officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the 
China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Import & Export Corporation, and the Chinese Embassy in 
Korea.

2.      The two sides held extensive discussions on major issues such as the period of postponement, the 
level of TRQ expansion, rice import management mechanisms, and other bilateral issues.

3.      Both sides agreed to continue with consultations to narrow the differences in their positions, and 
decided to hold the 5th round of negotiations in late September.
