1. The Agreement on Abolition of Visa Requirements between the Government of the Republic of Korea and
the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil took effect on May 20, 2002.
2. The Agreement on Abolition of Visa Requirement allows the peoples of Korea and Brazil to pay mutual
visits without visa within 90 days, which is expected to strengthen bilateral friendship between Korea and
Brazil through promotion of more people-to-people exchanges especially during the 2002 FIFA World Cup
Games.
3. Brazil is the largest trade partner of the ROK in Latin America and Caribbean. In 2001, the ROK’s export to
and import from Brazil were recorded at US$1.6 billion and US$1.1 billion. In 2001, 7,658 Korean nationals
entered Brazil and 4,110 Brazilian nationals entered the ROK.
