1. The ROK-Germany Joint Cultural Committee was held at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany from
September 21 to 22, 2004. The ROK and German delegations consisted of officials of related ministries and
representatives of major cultural organizations of the two countries.
2. The participants of the ROK-Germany Joint Cultural Committee shared in-depth discussions on
exchange of students and scholars, enhancement of understanding in the Korean and German languages,
and the promotion of exchanges in various areas including arts, culture, broadcasting and library.
3. In particular, the two sides agreed to declare year 2005 as the "Year of Korea", and the ROK side
explained the background, goal, and details of events as part of efforts to further strengthen the bilateral
relations.
4. With Germany's declaration of the Year of Korea 2005, the bilateral relationship between the two
countries is expected to be further enhanced in the future through various events.
