1. The Jeju Forum of International Leadership, co-hosted by Jeju Island and Yonsei University, was held in
Jeju Island between June 15-17, 2001, to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the inter-Korean Summit by
seeking constructive measures to promote reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula and contribute
to the settlement of peace, coexistence and co-prosperity in Northeast Asia.
2. At this forum, President Kim Dae-jung's keynote speech was followed by active discussions among the
participants. The participants consisted of former and incumbent government officials--including former U.S.
Secretary of Defense William Perry and former Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Nakayama Taro, and
representatives of the press and academic circle including Professor Robert Scalapino of University of
California, Berkeley, from the U.S,; Director of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies Zhang Yun Liang from
China; and Professor Inoguchi Takashi of University of Tokyo from Japan. Minister Han Seung-soo and
Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations Choi Young-jin represented the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the forum.
