1. The Negotiations between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China for the conclusion of the Korea-Hong Kong
Extradition Treaty will be held in Seoul from June 4 to 5, 2002. The ROK delegation will consist of officials
from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Justice, headed by Director of the MOFAT
Treaties Division I Park Dong-sil. The Hong Kong delegation will include officials from the Department of
Justice, headed by Law Officer of the International Law Division of Department of Justice.
2. The 1st and 2nd Negotiations were held in July 1995, and in April 1998.
3. In efforts to efficiently prevent and punish transnational crimes and realize legal justice on criminal issues,
the ROK government has concluded extradition treaties with 16 countries, including the United States, China,
Japan, Australia and Canada. The ROK government is also in the process of negotiating with other major
countries for the conclusion of extradition treaties.
