1. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan had a breakfast meeting on March 26 with leading
U.S. officials including Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Christopher Hill, Political
Adviser of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kathleen Stephens and Senior Director for East Asian
Affairs at the National Security Council Dennis Wilder. Extensive discussions on pending issues between the
two countries took place during the meeting.
2. Minister Yu said both Korea and the U.S. should exert efforts to further develop the bilateral alliance for
the increase of mutual benefits based on shared values and understanding between the two countries. He
also said that they should work together for the preparation for President Lee Myung-bak’s successful visit to
the U.S. and the Korea-U.S. summit in mid-April.
3. Minister Yu and the U.S. officials engaged in discussions on how to maintain close cooperation in the
peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and promote early ratification of Korea-U.S. FTA and
Korea’s participation in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program within the year.
