1. The Korean government will host the 2nd Meeting of the High-level Study Group of the Asia Cooperation
Dialogue (ACD) from April 17 to 18 in Seoul. Representatives of governments and academic circles of the 30
ACD member countries from Asia and the Middle East will participate in this meeting. Director-General for the
South Asian and Oceanian Affairs Lee Kyung-soo will preside over the meeting.
2. As a result of the 6th ACD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in June 2007 in Seoul, the launch of the Study
Group Meeting for research on the future development of the ACD was decided. Its first meeting was held
in August 2007 in Thailand and it will come to Seoul for the second one.
3. The upcoming meeting will hold discussions concerning the direction of future development of the ACD,
the need of the establishment of the ACD Secretariat, the funding issue and participation in the Track II as
well as cross-cultural dialogues. The outcomes of this meeting will be reported to the 7th ACD Foreign
Ministers’ Meeting slated for October 2008 in Kazakhstan.
4. As the chair of the ACD for 2007-2008 session, Korea will host this Study Group Meeting following the
success at the ACD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in June 2007. The upcoming Study Group Meeting is
expected to serve as an opportunity to enhance Korea’s status within the ACD, a pan-Asian regional
cooperation mechanism, and also to demonstrate Korea’s willingness to actively contribute to the
international community.
