1. Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan had a telephone conversation with his new UK counterpart William
Hague on the afternoon of May 19.
2. In the telephone conversation, Minister Yu offered congratulations to Foreign Secretary Hague on
his inauguration and exchanged with him views on Korea-UK relations, the sinking of the Cheonan
and cooperation in the G20.
3. After expressing appreciation for the UK government’s dispatch of experts to take part in the
investigation into the cause of the sinking of the Cheonan, Minister Yu asked that the UK support
Korea’s responsive measures and maintain cooperation in the wake of the announcement of the
outcome of the probe into the Cheonan incident.
4. Secretary Hague expressed gratitude to Minister Yu for his congratulations on his inauguration, and
voiced an intention to support the Korean position and the Korean government’s prospective measures
with respect to the Cheonan incident. Also, he expected Korea and the UK to further bolster cooperation,
such as in the G20 Summit slated for this November.
