1. Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon held bilateral discussions with Japanese Economy, Trade
and Industry Minister Naoshima Masayuki during the latter’s visit to Korea on the occasion of the
Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Economic and Trade Ministers’ Meeting.
2. Both sides welcomed the expanded trade volume between Korea and Japan, and appraised that
this development in spite of the recent global economic crisis is the successful outcome of close
cooperation between the two sides. In this regard, the two sides agreed to continue such cooperation
in the future.
3. The two sides also shared the view that the Korea-Japan FTA is important for the development
not only of the two countries, but furthermore of the East Asian region as a whole. Thus, they
discussed in depth various ways to achieve a balance in trade in order to push ahead the Korea-
Japan FTA.
4. Furthermore, both sides agreed that to further expand the bilateral trade volume, cooperation
in the field of industry must be advanced. In relation to this, they decided to strengthen industrial
cooperation through such means as government support in order for enterprises of both countries
to actively participate in the 2nd Components and Materials Supply Exhibition between Korea
and Japan to be held in September, the Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises’ CEO Forum between
Korea and Japan, etc.
5. In addition, both sides agreed to continue close cooperation for the success of the G20 Summit
in Korea and APEC Summit in Japan this year in order for Korea and Japan to successfully perform
leading roles in the world economy and regional economy.
6. Both sides agreed to continue close mutual cooperation for the development of the WTO/DDA
negotiations.
