1. The government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the adoption of a final document by the 2010
NPT Review Conference (May 3-28, New York), the first time in ten years since the Review Conference
in 2000, and notes the concerted efforts by the international community for the adoption.
2. In particular, the ROK government takes note of the fact that the Review Conference reiterated the
international community’s firm position by urging North Korea to fulfill its denuclearization commitments
in accordance with the September 19 Joint Statement of 2005 and related Security Council resolutions,
while reaffirming that North Korea can not be recognized as a nuclear weapons state in any case.
ㅇ Heeding the united voice of the international community, North Korea must give up its nuclear
weapons program, take irreversible steps towards denuclearization, and comply with international
standards including the Security Council resolutions 1718 and 1874.
3. As the final document contains specific measures to overcome various challenges facing the NPT
and to strengthen the NPT regime, it is expected to serve as an important opportunity to reinforce the
NPT and multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation regimes in the future.
4. The ROK government, as Vice-Chair of the 2010 NPT Review Conference, played an active role in
adopting the final document, and will continue to contribute to international efforts to strengthen
disarmament and non-proliferation.
