1. Considering massive damage caused by armed clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in
the city of Osh and the Jalalabad region in southern Kyrgyzstan on June 10, the Korean government
has decided to provide emergency humanitarian aid worth 100,000 dollars to Uzbekistan, which is
temporarily protecting about 83,000 refugees.
ㅇ The clashes have caused enormous damage, while leaving 170 people dead, 1,762 injured,
and around 83,000 homeless as of June 15. The actual extent of the damage is expected to exceed
the estimated figures.
2. As a large number of vulnerable people, including women, children and elders, who need emergency
humanitarian aid, have flown into Uzbekistan, the Korean government will provide humanitarian aid to
Kyrgyz refugees in Uzbekistan first.
ㅇ After finding out what the actual extent of the damage and the demand for humanitarian aid are,
the Korean government will consider whether to give additional aid.
ㅇ After estimating the demand for humanitarian aid, the UN will launch a Flash Appeal next week.
3. The Korean government will provide relief supplies consisting mainly of food and medicines, which
are in high demand, in consultation with the Uzbek government.
