1. On June 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, along with the Public Procurement
Service, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Corporation, Trade Association, Korea Federation
of Small and Medium Businesses, and corporations that have successfully entered the UN
procurement market, will hold a discussion on ways to promote the entry of Korean
enterprises into the UN & ODA procurement market.

2. The discussion will focus on ways to overcome the low participation of Korean enterprises
despite the expansion of the UN procurement market following the briefing session on May
13-14.

 ※ UN procurement market volume: 6.53 billion USD (2004) → 1.359 billion USD (2008)
※ Participation of Korean enterprises in the UN procurement market: 52 million USD (0.51%)
   (2007) → 33 million (0.24%) (2008)

o Moreover, the discussion aims to enhance the Korean Government’s response to the
expansion of untying aid since Korea joined the OECD Development Assistance Committee
(DAC) and the interests of Korean enterprises on the ODA procurement market, and also
find ways to expand the entry of Korean enterprises into the ODA procurement market.

※ The volume of the ODA procurement market for 2010 is estimated at 77 billion USD,
and the value of orders of Korean enterprises in the Multilateral Development Bank
(MDB) over the last five years is 1.26 billion USD, which is 1% of the total orders placed

3. The agenda for the discussion will include ① fostering experts on UN & ODA procurement
market, ② development of education/training programs on the procurement market for
interested enterprises, ③ holding promotional activities such as tours of briefing sessions,
④ establishing networks such as expanding channels for information on procurement through
institutions such as the MDB, and ⑤ finding ways for cooperation of related organizations
in Korea.

4. Meanwhile, in order to promote the entry of Korean enterprises into the UN & ODA
procurement market in September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is planning
to jointly hold a briefing session on the procurement market with KOTRA by inviting
various experts from UN affiliated organizations such as the World Food Program,
the United Nation’s Children’s Fund, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
