ROK, Japan and China to Hold the 2nd Counter-terrorism Consultation

1. The 2nd ROK-Japan-China Counter-terrorism Consultation will be held in Sendai, Japan, on July 18 with Song Bong-heon, Ambassador for International Security Affairs of MOFAT, Tamotsu Shinotsuka, Ambassador in charge of counter-terrorism, transnational crime and cyber policy of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and Qiu Guohong, Director-General for External Security Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, as the heads of their respective delegations.

o Officials from relevant agencies, including the Foreign Ministry, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and the National Police Agency, will attend the meeting.

2. The ROK-Japan-China Counter-terrorism Consultation, created in accordance with “Vision 2020,” which was agreed on by the leaders of the three countries in May, 2010, was first held in Jeju, Korea in 2011. The forthcoming Consultation will discuss measures of extensive trilateral cooperation under the agenda items, including sharing information on the terrorism situation in rapidly-changing areas, such as the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, aviation security, cooperation on response to cyber terrorism, and strengthening developing countries’ counter-terrorism capabilities.

3. On the sidelines of the upcoming Consultation, the 3rd ROK-China Counter-terrorism Consultation (July 16, Seoul) and the 6th ROK-Japan Counter-terrorism Consultation (July 19, Sendai) will also be held. The meetings are expected to boost bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism.
