Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Discusses North Korea’s 3rd Nuclear Test with Foreign Ambassadors

1. On February 12, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lim Sung-nam summoned to the Foreign Ministry Ambassadors Sung Kim, Koro Besho, Konstantin Vnukov and Chen Hai from the US, Japan, Russia and China, respectively, for bilateral meetings. In the meetings, the Special Representative relayed the intention of the government of the Republic of Korea to respond sternly to North Korea’s third nuclear test and exchanged views with the Ambassadors on ways to address the situation.

2. The respective Ambassadors expressed their deep concerns over the latest nuclear test by North Korea and shared the view that it was conducted in defiance of repeated warnings from the international community. They agreed to consult closely with the ROK in taking response measures, including those by the UN Security Council.
