1. On February 12, Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan, who is on a visit to New York, had a telephone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida at the latter’s request and discussed ways to work together in responding to North Korea’s nuclear test.

2. The two Ministers condemned North Korea’s nuclear test as a flagrant provocative act that cannot be tolerated and agreed to work together at the UN Security Council to take an appropriate and resolute action in response.

3. The two Ministers also agreed to maintain close trilateral cooperation with the US and to work more closely with other countries concerned, including China and Russia.
