1. A Chinese delegation comprised of ten junior officials of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee will visit the Republic of Korea on April 23-27, 2013, at the invitation of the Foreign Ministry. Liu Jinfeng, Deputy Director-General of the Personnel Bureau of the Department, will lead the delegation.

o The upcoming visit to the ROK is the third of its kind following China’s visit to the ROK in December, 2011 and the ROK’s visit to China in July, 2012. It is the second visit to the ROK by the Chinese delegation.

2. During its five-day visit to the ROK, the Chinese delegation is scheduled to meet with diplomats, visit the National Assembly and meet with party officials, visit the Institute of East and West Studies of Yonsei University and the Digital Pavilion, watch a performance called Bibap, and tour cultural sites in Seoul. The delegation will also make a trip to Jeju Island.

3. The International Department of Central Committee, being directly responsible to the Chinese Communist Party, oversees exchanges between the Communist Party and political parties of other countries, including North Korea, and plays an important role in deciding China’s foreign policy. In this regard, the ROK’s regular exchanges with officials from the department are expected to enhance mutual understanding and build trust, thereby contributing to further developing the ROK-China relations in the future.
