1. The Republic of Korea and the United States held their eighth round of negotiations on revising the bilateral Nuclear Cooperation Agreement in Washington DC from September 30 to October 1.

° The ROK delegation included officials and/or experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning; the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission; Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co.; and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The US side was comprised of relevant officials from the Department of State; the Department of Energy; and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

2. The two sides, drawing upon the consent between their governments to revise their bilateral Nuclear Cooperation Agreement in a forward-looking and mutually beneficial way, held in-depth discussions on ways to lay the groundwork for substantive cooperation in various fields related to nuclear energy.

° The two sides focused on ways to promote their bilateral cooperation in the nuclear energy industry. They had comprehensive discussions on the content of a new agreement.

° The two sides shared the view that they should revise the Agreement in a way that strengthens the competitiveness of their exports of nuclear power plants in a mutually beneficial manner, which, in turn, will contribute to enhancing their partnership in the nuclear power plant industry.

3. The ROK and the US delegations agreed to hold their next round of negotiations later this year and to continue striving for making further progress.
