1. The 6th ROK-NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Policy Consultation will be held at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on October 8.

o The ROK and NATO delegations will be led by Kim Moon-hwan, MOFA’s Director-General for International Organizations, and Thrasyvoulos Terry Stamatopoulos, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, respectively.

2. In the meeting, the two sides will exchange views on the situations in the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia, Afghanistan and other regions and discuss ways to cooperate on major global security issues, including cyber security, counter-terrorism, nuclear non-proliferation and counter-piracy.

3. Since joining NATO as one of its partners across the globe in 2006, the ROK has maintained cooperative relations with the Organization. The ROK has held policy consultations with NATO every year since 2008 and participated in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. In addition, the ROK has further strengthened cooperative partnership with NATO, following the conclusion of the ROK-NATO Individual Partnership Cooperation Programme in September, 2012 and NATO Secretary-General Rasmussen’s first visit to the ROK in April, 2013.
