 1. The government of the Republic of Korea provided Pakistan with 200,000 US dollars in emergency assistance on October 2 to join the country’s efforts to recover from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which had hit the southwestern province of Baluchistan on September 24 and caused the loss of many lives and massive damage to property.

* According to the report by the ROK diplomatic mission in Pakistan, the earthquake claimed approximately 600 lives and damaged some 21,000 homes.

2. The Pakistani government faces considerable difficulties in conducting relief operations posed by the attempts to shoot down relief helicopters and bombing attacks by the country’s separatists. Despite the difficulties, the Pakistani government is making its utmost relief efforts in cooperation with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and international organizations.

3. The contribution from the ROK government will be delivered to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and used to provide victims with relief supplies, including sanitation goods and blankets.
