ROK and Ukraine Hold their 2nd Consular Consultation

1. Ahn Young-jip, Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, and Andriy Sybiga, Director-General for Consular Service of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, held the Second Consular Consultation between the Republic of Korea and Ukraine at the latter’s Foreign Ministry in Kiev on October 21. In the Meeting, the two sides consulted on bilateral consular issues, including the protection of the peoples of the two countries staying in each other’s countries and the conclusion of an envisioned agreement on the mutual recognition of drivers’ licenses.

2. The ROK delegation asked for the Ukrainian government’s cooperation to ensure the safety of the ROK residents in Ukraine and to resolve difficulties in the resident registration process for long-stay ROK nationals, including business personnel, in the country.

° Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side proposed concluding an agreement on the mutual recognition of drivers’ licenses to improve the convenience of the peoples of the two countries.


3. The two sides agreed to work toward a bilateral social security agreement and work closely together to help ethnic Koreans in Ukraine live stable lives in the country.


4. The two delegations reaffirmed that the two countries have lately seen advances in their ties. In view of the need to expand consular cooperation in order to promote exchanges and cooperation, the two sides agreed to hold Consular Consultations on a regular basis.
