1. The Government of the Republic of Korea welcomes UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s appointment of Zeid Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein of Jordan as the new United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

2. The Government of the Republic of Korea notes with appreciation that High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid, as a renowned diplomat with knowledge and passion for human rights, has played an active role in many areas, particularly in international justice, peace keeping and sexual violence prevention. The ROK government expects him to successfully fulfill his role as the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

3. The ROK government, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, will actively support and cooperate with the new High Commissioner’s activities to protect and promote human rights around the world.
