Second Vice Minister Meets with the GGGI Director-General

1. Second Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul met with new Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Yvo de Boer on June 20 and exchanged with him views on ways for the Republic of Korea and the GGGI to work more closely together.

2. Vice Minister Cho voiced his confidence that under the leadership of Director-General de Boer, who is internationally prominent in the fields of climate change and sustainable development, the GGGI will see further advances. He also spoke of the plan of the ROK government, as the leader in the establishment of the GGGI and host of its headquarters, to render continued support to the GGGI.

° Director-General de Boer stressed that the ROK, which has had experience of mapping out and implementing green growth policies, can be of great assistance to the GGGI whose main mission is to support developing countries’ efforts toward green growth. He asked that the ROK government play a proactive role in the GGGI’s efforts to enhance its international standing.

3. In particular, the Vice Minister and the Director-General shared the view that green growth is a key area of creative economy, where private-public cooperation is promoted in an innovative manner and thereby synergy effect is created between the two sectors. The two sides agreed to work together in the pursuit of creative economy with regard to countering climate change.
