1. The Foreign Ministry held a meeting with representatives of international organizations in the Republic of Korea at the office of the Korean Committee for UNICEF on June 26.

2. The meeting took place to follow up on the first meeting between the heads of ROK missions to international organizations and representatives of international organizations in the ROK, which had been held on the sidelines of the meeting of heads of the ROK’s overseas diplomatic missions in April. At the latest meeting, Foreign Ministry officials who are serving the ROK at its diplomatic frontlines and delegates from international organizations working in the ROK discussed ways to maintain smooth communication and work more closely together.

° The representatives from (offices of) 17 international organizations attended the meeting. Some of those offices and organizations included the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) East and North-East Asia Office, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Seoul Policy Center, the UN Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN APCICT), the World Food Programme (WFP) Seoul Office, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation in Korea, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Seoul.

° The delegation from the Foreign Ministry included Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs Shin Dong-ik and Directors of relevant divisions, such as the United Nations Division, the Human Rights and Social Affairs Division, the Humanitarian Assistance Division, the G20 and Economic Organizations Division and the Climate Change and Environment Division -- some 50 officials in total.

3. The participants shared the view that the meeting served as a useful opportunity for the ROK and the international organizations to seek ways to communicate smoothly and boost substantive cooperation between them.

4. The Foreign Ministry will continue to hold the meeting on a regular basis and establish the meeting as a mechanism that plays a substantive role in strengthening global cooperation in various fields, including development, environment, disasters, refugees, education and international norms.
