1. The Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) Plenary adopted a public statement which includes the North Korean nuclear issue at its plenary meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from June 23 through 27.

2. In its public statement, the NSG expressed its grave concern about the proliferation implications of North Korea's nuclear program and reiterated its long-standing support for full compliance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

° In addition, the NSG conveyed support for diplomatic efforts for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and a solution to the North Korean nuclear issue in a peaceful manner consistent with the 2005 Joint Statement of the Six-Party Talks.

° The NSG’s latest public statement specifically calls for full compliance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which is viewed as the stronger message than ever before on the denuclearization of North Korea.

3. The NSG was established in 1978 to contribute to nuclear non-proliferation by controlling exports of nuclear-related materials. Currently, 48 key nuclear countries in the field of nuclear energy, including the Republic of Korea, the US, China, Japan and Russia, participate in the regime.
