Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs to Visit Japan

1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Hwang Joon-kook will visit Tokyo, Japan, from July 15 to 17 and hold consultations with Japanese government officials, including Director-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Junichi Ihara of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, who is the country’s chief negotiator for the Six-party Talks. Special Representative Hwang will also meet with experts on Korean Peninsula affairs from various sectors, including academia and the media.

2. The upcoming visit to Japan is the first by Special Representative Hwang since he took up the post. The two sides will hold extensive discussions on the full range of North Korean issues, including the North Korean nuclear and missile issues and the Japan-North Korea consultations.
