1. The Republic of Korea and China will hold their second Foreign Policy and Security (2+2) Dialogue in Seoul on January 5 with officials of the Foreign and Defense Ministries of the two countries in attendance. The meeting will be chaired by the director-general-level officials of the Foreign Ministries and deputy-chaired by deputy director-general-level officials of the Defense Ministries. In the meeting, the two countries will exchange views on matters of mutual concern, including ways to work together on foreign affairs and security, issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, and regional and global situations.

2. The dialogue mechanism is one of the four dialogue channels established pursuant to the “ROK-China Joint Statement for Future Vision” adopted during President Park Geun-hye’s visit to China in June 2013. In particular, the level of Defense Ministry delegates to the forthcoming dialogue and on has been upgraded from the director to the deputy director-general level. This is expected to facilitate genuine dialogue on foreign policy and security and help further strengthen strategic communication between the two countries.
