1. A special event marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN will take place at the Foreign Ministry on May 20, where UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will deliver a special address titled ““The 70th Anniversary of the Foundation of the United Nations.”

2. The event will be co-hosted by the UN Association of the Republic of Korea (UNAROK), the World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) and the Korean Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR), and bring together some 300 people, including members of the Diplomatic Corps in the ROK, the UNAROK, the WFUNA and the KCFR.

◦ The participants from the Diplomatic Corps are expected to include the Ambassadors from the US, China, Japan and Russia, some 110 in total.

3. In his address, UN Secretary-General Ban, who is in the ROK to attend the World Education Forum 2015, will speak about the special ties between the ROK and the UN over the past 70 years as well as pending issues at the UN, such as the post-2015 development agenda and climate change, proposing a way forward for the UN.

4. At the event, a commemorative video for the 70th anniversary of the UN’s founding will be screened. A photo exhibition on the ROK-UN relations will also take place in conjunction with the event.
