1. The Northeast Asia Energy Hub Symposium, co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea National Oil Corporation, will take place at the Westin Chosun hotel in Seoul on June 16.

o The upcoming symposium is the second of its kind, following the first one held in June 2014. In a bid to improve energy security in Northeast Asia, which comprises some of the world’s largest energy consumers and importers, participants of the symposium will explore ways to enhance regional cooperation, especially ways to successfully pursue the ROK’s “Northeast Asia oil hub” project.

o The symposium will bring together about 200 people, including experts from energy-related organizations and companies, and academia, from home and abroad.

2. At the forthcoming symposium, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Tae-ho of the Foreign Ministry will deliver an opening address.

3. The symposium is expected to significantly contribute to making more people at home and abroad aware that the ROK’s efforts to become Northeast Asia’s oil hub will help enhance energy security and cooperation in Northeast Asia amid changes in the global energy market, including the US shale revolution and low oil prices.
