Cultural Event to Take Place in Osaka to Mark the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the ROK and Japan

1. As part of cultural events to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Japan this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold “Harmony in Music,” a joint concert of the ROK and Japanese flute orchestras, in Osaka, Japan.

- July 10, 2015, at 19:00-20:30, Izumi Hall in Osaka

2. At the upcoming event, the ROK’s representative flute orchestra “Seoul Flute Choir” and the Japanese women’s flute orchestra “Umibue no Kai” will form a united flute orchestra and play together classical masterpieces, Korean folk songs and children’s songs of the two countries. The event will also feature collaboration between Korean and Japanese flute soloists, as well as players of traditional musical instruments of the two countries, thereby promoting friendship and unity among artists of the two countries.

3. The upcoming joint concert to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the ROK and Japan is expected to serve as an opportunity for not only performers but also the audience and the peoples of the two countries to be united and communicate through music and to better understand each other.

4. In addition to the joint concert, the Foreign Ministry is planning to hold a range of other events to promote the charms of Korean traditional and modern cultures in various areas in Japan during the second half of the year. They include fusion Korean classical music and b-boy performances (September, Fukuoka), the Cheongju City Dance Theater’s traditional dance performances (October, Yokohama), and the National Orchestra of Korea’s Korean classical music performances (December, Tokyo).
