1. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) will hold its Seventh Session of the Council in Bali, Indonesia, on July 23 and 24.

◦ The meeting will bring together government delegates from 25 countries and private sector experts. Among the participants will be ministerial-level officials of Kiribati, Mongolia, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, government delegates from 19 member states of the GGGI, and observers including government officials from such non-member countries as Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands, and private sector experts.

2. The Chair of the Council, H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former President of Indonesia, will preside over the Council meeting, which, for the first time, will include an open session for non-members of the GGGI and private sector experts, which is designed to expand the GGGI’s membership and raise its profile. The GGGI Director-General will report on the progress of the GGGI activities, followed by strategic discussions on two subjects: Policy Barriers to Green Investment and Social Inclusion.

◦ In the closed-door session, the GGGI member states will discuss a broad range of ways to develop the GGGI, including the launch of an Inclusive Green Growth Partnership with multilateral development banks (MDBs) and regional international organizations; strategies for partnership and resource mobilization; and the EU’s possible accession to the GGGI.

3. The head delegate from the government of the Republic of Korea, Lee Seong-ho, Director-General for Global Economic Affairs Bureau of the Foreign Ministry, will attend the strategic discussion sessions on green investment and inclusive green growth. In the meeting, he will explain the ROK government’s efforts to foster an environment for green investment through its emissions trading system (ETS) as well as its second five-year plan for green growth, which reflects a paradigm for inclusive green growth.

4. In addition, in a discussion on ways to enhance the GGGI’s financial and operational efficiency and expand its membership, Director-General Lee will stress that in order for the GGGI, which marks its third year since its launch as an international organization, to focus on delivering tangible results, it should use its budget in a transparent manner; lay a stable financial foundation; and implement its projects in a substantial way.

◦ The Director-General will also underscore that the GGGI should make a success of the Global Green Growth Summit (GGGS) slated for 2016; forge green growth partnership with multilateral development banks and regional international organizations; and seek progress in discussions on the EU’s possible accession to the GGGI in continued efforts to increase potential partners and activate the green growth agenda.

5. On the sidelines of the GGGI meeting, Director-General Lee will meet bilaterally with Danish head delegate, Ambassador Niels Christen Pultz to discuss ways for the ROK and Denmark to work together in advancing the GGGI.
