1. On August 17, Second Vice Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul held a dinner meeting with chief directors from 15 ministries of Ghana, who visited the Republic of Korea to participate in the “Ghana High-Level Partnership Program for Economic Development Strategy,” hosted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and discussed ways to enhance development cooperation with Ghana.

2. The invitation program is conducted for Ghanaian high-level government officials for the first time. It is very unprecedented that chief directors of almost all ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, participate in the invitation program. This shows the Ghanaian government’s willingness to follow the ROK’s national development strategy model in Ghana.

o Ghana is the only democratic country in West Africa to have had a peaceful transition of power. Ghana has similarities with the ROK in that it also has a high zeal for education. Ghana is one of the countries where the ROK’s development model is most likely to succeed.

3. The Partnership Program, made possible by joint efforts of the ROK Embassy in Ghana and the KOICA office in Ghana, and tailored to the needs of Ghana, will provide key high-level government officials, who will lead Ghana’s growth, with an opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the ROK’s history of economic development and its economic development strategies and thereby gain wisdom that can be helpful in devising Ghana’s national development strategies in the future. The Program is also expected to significantly contribute to advancing friendly relations between the ROK and Ghana.

4. The fifteen chief directors who participated in the Program will learn about the ROK’s national development strategies under various themes: △selection of national development agenda and strategies; △public-private partnership system in the ROK; and △science and technology development and education. They will also have an opportunity to see the achievement that the ROK has made first hand by visiting the Human Resource Development Center of Korea Electric Power Corporation, the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and the Seoul Transport Operation and Information Service.
