1. The groundbreaking ceremony for the ASEAN Culture House, which will contribute to the promotion of people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the Republic of Korea and ASEAN as their hub of cultural exchanges, will take place in Busan on March 23. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will deliver commemorative remarks at the ceremony.

At the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit held in Busan in December 2014 with the vision of “Building Trust, Bringing Happiness,” President Park Geun-hye announced the plan to set up the ASEAN Culture House in order to further promote two-way exchanges between the peoples of the ROK and the ASEAN countries and actively seek cultural enrichment in a mutually beneficial way. After a year of preparations since the announcement, the groundbreaking ceremony will come on March 23.

3. The ASEAN Culture House, which will open in the second half of the year 2017, the “Year of ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange,” is expected to play the role as the hub of the ROK-ASEAN cultural exchanges by helping the ROK people better understand and experience diverse cultures of the ASEAN countries and obtain various information on ASEAN.
