KNDA Launches Online Service of the ROK Diplomatic History Database

1. On August 1, the Center for Diplomatic History Studies at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) launched online service of the Republic of Korea diplomatic history database, which contains some 60,000 entries on the major diplomatic matters of the ROK and the international community from the ROK’s liberation from the Japanese colonial rule till today. The service, through which information on the ROK’s key diplomatic matters will be provided online in an integrated manner, is expected to help the ROK nationals better understand the country’s foreign affairs and to contribute to the promotion of transparency in information disclosure as well as of research on diplomatic history.

° The online service is available at the KNDA website at www.knda.go.kr/cdhs and the IFANS website at www.ifans.go.kr.

2. The online service of the ROK diplomatic history database, created through the digitization of diplomatic history-related information included in the “timeline of the ROK diplomatic history” published by the Foreign Ministry, was formally launched on August 1 after three months of trial operation. The database contains some 30,000 entries on the ROK’s major diplomatic activities, including the establishment of diplomatic relations and overseas diplomatic missions, international conferences that ROK delegations were sent to, and bilateral and multilateral agreements; and another 30,000 entries on international diplomatic matters, including diplomatic relations between world powers and major countries and international meetings.
